HMRC Removes Optional GB S&S MRN Facility on GMR

Mandatory GB S&S MRNs for Goods Entering GB

Mandatory GB S&S MRNs for Goods Entering GB

As of this week, HMRC has removed the optional facility for including GB Safety & Security (GB S&S) on the Goods Movement Reference (GMR). GB S&S declarations have been mandatory for all goods entering Great Britain (GB) from the European Union (EU) via Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) transport since January 31st. However, the inclusion of the GB S&S MRN on the GMR had remained optional until now.

New Requirements for RoRo Imports

The latest HMRC update means that all RoRo shipments entering GB must now have a GB S&S MRN included on the GMR. Furthermore, failure to include this reference number may result in significant delays at ports. Delays in clearance can lead to increased costs for businesses, including potential storage fees and disruptions in supply chains. Moreover, ensuring compliance with these new rules is critical for smooth operations and avoiding unnecessary expenses.

Avoid Delays with the Right Software

Businesses involved in importing goods through RoRo must ensure they meet these new requirements. Reliable software solutions can help businesses remain compliant and streamline the declaration process. Custran provides both GB S&S declaration software and GMR solutions to facilitate smooth customs processing. Using a dedicated platform reduces errors, enhances efficiency, and minimizes the risk of delays at the port. For information on register for GB S&S and GVMS contact HMRC
